Canadian band Preoccupations have had a seriously bad week, having been robbed twice…yikes! First in Vancouver and then in San Francisco, waking up Tuesday (5/15) ”to find our beloved old van, our trailer, and all of our gear and merch stolen.”

Last year, Pitchfork and their beer website October put on the inaugural OctFest in NYC with live music and craft beer, and this year they’ll do it again. This time it’s two days, and it moves from Brooklyn Hangar to Governors Island…

This week’s edition of BrooklynVegan Blog Radio on Sirius XM we pulled from the initial lineup of the 2018 Desert Daze festival (which is pretty sweet). We played songs by Tame Impala, Mercury Rev, Warpaint, Preoccupations, Connan Mockasin, A Place to Bury Strangers, Can, King Khan, Pond and lots more.

Plus: Mercury Rev will perform ’Deserter’s Songs’ in full, and the initial lineup also includes Chelsea Wolfe, Malcolm Mooney of Can, Connan Mockasin, Preoccupations, A Place to Bury Strangers, and more.

The L.A. trio incorporate dark shoegaze and wall-of-noise rippers into their hazy sonic palette, with some soaring, poppy numbers too. Their tour also includes dates with METZ and Ed Schrader’s Music Beat.

Preoccupations (fka Viet Cong) have shared “Antidote,” the second single from their forthcoming album New Material. Led by a throbbing, stabbing bassline and industrial-strength drums, it’s more of a pop song than you might first think, though the song takes a left turn down a long dark hallway halfway through.

Canada’s Preoccupations are back with their third album, bluntly titled New Material, which will be out March 23 via Jagjaguwar.
