The 2019 edition of Austin’s Levitation festival, one of our picks of non-Coachella fests that are worth attending, happens November 7-10 in downtown Austin.

New Idea Society, the project of Mike Law (Eulcid, Wild Arrows) and Stephen Brodsky (Mutoid Man, Cave In, etc), are back, and the lineup now includes past contributor Alan Cage (Quicksand) on drums, and new bassist Brian Cook (Russian Circles, Botch, Sumac).

Plus: Blood Orange, Russian Circles and Gouge Away, Murray Lightburn (of The Dears), Thurston Moore, Gang of Youths, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal/Angel Du$t, and more tour-related news.

Popgun’s multi-room Bushwick venue Elsewhere opened last year on Halloween, and to celebrate their first anniversary, we’re giving away tickets to 12 big upcoming shows at the venue.

Deafheaven have shared a second song from their anticipated fourth album. Chelsea Wolfe, who sings on that album, has also announced a tour with Russian Circles…

Instru-metal greats Russian Circles and doom innovators King Woman are on tour now, having just played Brooklyn’s Elsewhere…

Levitation fest returns to Austin after two years off, happening April 26 – 29 at venues all over the downtown area. The festival has been releasing official mixtapes featuring music from this year’s artists. We’re premiering the second of those, which was put together by Al Lover, and features Oh Sees, Electric Wizard, Ministry, The Make-Up, Bedouine, Panda Bear, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Parquet Courts, Ariel Pink, Slowdive, Suuns, OM, and lots more.

Levitation has also announced daily lineup for its 2018 edition which happens April 26 – 29 at venues in downtown Austin.

Instru-metal greats Russian Circles spent much of 2017 on the road with Mastodon and Eagles of Death Metal in continued support of 2016’s Guidance, and they’re already set to tour again…
