The 2019 Savannah Stopover festival happens March 7-9, right before SXSW, and will include performances by Deerhunter, The Joy Formidable, Lucy Dacus, The Beths, Priests, The Bright Light Social Hour, Mike Krol, Sneaks and more.
For bands, The Savannah Stopover is a way to ease into the festival insanity that is SXSW, and for audiences it's a chance to catch a lot of bands who are on their way Austin, but in a much more laid back atmosphere. Having the fest in Savannah's downtown district, where you can drink on the street and take your beverage with you from venue to venue, is a nice bonus.
Bat Fangs is the newish duo of singer/guitarist Betsy Wright (Ex Hex, Chain and the Gang) and drummer Laura King (Flesh Wounds, Speed Stick). If you like any of their other groups, chances are you'll dig the glammy, riffy hard rock sound they make together.
Now in its seventh year, the Savannah Stopover has been offering music fans and artists a taste of SXSW but at a more civilized pace. Over the course of three days, over 80 bands will play at a dozen or so Savannah venues all of which are within walking distance of each other. Check out who we recommend...
