The tribute to the late Silver Jews / Purple Mountains frontman is part of the monthly ”Three Ring Bender” series at Threes Brewing.

Malkmus performed ”Trains Across the Sea” and ”The Wild Kindness” in tribute to his friend and Silver Jews bandmate.

”He was an inspiration for decades,” say Animal Collective’s Avey Tare and Geologist of Silver Jews’ David Berman. ”One we wouldn’t be here without.”

In addition to his deep well of originals, Callahan paid tribute to his friend and labelmate David Berman at Webster Hall by covering two Silver Jews songs. ”Time to cry,” Bill said, introing ”I Remember Me,” and adding, ”with David gone, everything’s different.”

”I think a lot of people were as shocked as I was upon hearing the news of David Berman’s passing,” says the duo’s Klara Söderberg, ”It didn’t seem real. It left me completely devastated.”

”For all his demons, spending time in his company brought more joy and jokes and laughter than was literally imaginable.”

Tributes to Silver Jews/Purple Mountains frontman David Berman, who died on Wednesday, continue to pour in and some of his contemporaries have covered songs at their shows…

David Berman used to work as a security guard at The Whitney’s old location, which is now the Met Breuer; it was there that people gathered to read his work following his tragic death.

”American Water was my gateway to David Berman and Silver Jews,” says Nothing’s Dominic Palermo. ”I obsessed over that album and anything else I could find with David’s name. I originally recorded this song in the winter of 2016 in my first NYC apartment, but after hearing of his passing last night I decided to finish.”
