Sonic Temple 2024 lineup: Misfits, L7, Pantera, Gel, Slipknot, Judas Priest, Slayer’s Kerry King & more

Columbus, OH hard rock and heavy metal festival Sonic Temple returns on May 16-19 at Historic Crew Stadium for its 2024 edition. The Danny Wimmer Presents fest is getting a fourth stage next year for the first time, and 40 more bands than in years previous, for 120 bands total.

Headliners for 2024 are Disturbed on Thursday 5/16, “The Original Misfits” (aka Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only, and Doyle with second guitarist Acey Slade and former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo) on Friday 5/17, Pantera on Saturday 5/18, and Slipknot on Sunday 5/19. The lineup also includes Limp Bizkit, Judas Priest, Rise Against, Cypress Hill, Sum 41, Slayer’s Kerry King, Mr. Bungle, Anthrax, Bad Religion, Clutch, L7, Living Colour, Machine Head, Code Orange, THE CHATS, Baroness, Kittie, Drain, Jehnny Beth, Helmet, Bob Vylan, Nova Twins, Terror, Gel, Fleshwater, Scowl, Militarie Gun, The Chisel, Harms Way, Crobot, Fuming Mouth, and more. Headbangers Boat Cruise 2024 lineup (Lamb of God, Dethklok, At The Gates, Exodus, Napalm Death, more)

Lamb of God have announced the second edition of their Headbangers Boat cruise festival, setting sail on October 28 – November 1, 2024 from Miami, FL to Puerto Plaza, Dominican Republic, aboard the Norwegian Gem. Lamb of God will headline with two unique sets, and the lineup also features Dethklok, Chimaira, Poison The Well, At The Gates, Soulfly, Exodus, Napalm Death, Corrosion Of Conformity, After The Burial, Currents, Bleeding Through, Unearth, EYEHATEGOD, Frozen Soul, UnityTX, Lamb Of God guitarist Mark Morton‘s solo project, standup comedy from Shayne Smith and Mike Abrusci, and more to be announced.

“The sense of connection and family that was shared on the Headbangers Boat has been overwhelming,” Mark Morton says. “We were all reminded of the power that music has to bring joy, inspiration, and healing. We are beyond grateful to have had the chance to bring so many people from the heavy metal community together to share and celebrate this music we all love. And it doesn’t end here! We are thrilled to announce Headbangers Boat 2…”

Pre-sale signups are open now, with a deadline of Sunday, November 19 at 11:59 PM ET. A public on-sale will follow on Tuesday, November 21 at 2 PM ET.

Lamb of God will also tour with Pantera in 2024, including an NYC show at Madison Square Garden on February 22, and they’re on the lineup for Las Vegas’ Sick New World in April.

Meanwhile, after a man went overboard from this year’s edition of Headbangers Boat Cruise, Lamb of God shared a statement, writing, “It was shocking that a joyous occasion could so quickly turn tragic. While we don’t know all of the specifics, we know every single person on that boat is part of our family, and we witnessed everyone onboard experience grief at the loss of one of our own. We couldn’t have been more proud of how the metal community on board rallied together to support each other and celebrate heavy metal in the only way we know how. This music community truly is just that – a community.”

Daytona Beach, Florida hard rock/heavy metal festival Welcome To Rockville returns May 9-12, 2024 to Daytona International Speedway, and today the lineup has been announced. Among the bigger names are Slipknot, Foo Fighters, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Anthrax, Primus, Queens of the Stone Age, The Offspring, Evanesence, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, Mr. Bungle, Sum 41, Machine Head, Cypress Hill, and more.

As is often the case with these big hard rock festivals, there are also a lot of cool hardcore bands, plus some other smaller-front gems, including Code Orange, Drain, Terror, Stick To Your Guns, Scowl, The Chisel, L7, Helmet, Baroness, Fleshwater, Harms Way, Kublai Khan TX, Gatecreeper, Spite, Biohazard, Nitzer Ebb, The Chats, Militarie Gun, Gel, Fuming Mouth, Dying Wish, Kittie, Movements, Living Color, Destroy Boys, Jehnny Beth, and more, and the first-announced set from the new solo project that Slayer guitarist Kerry King has been teasing for 2024.

Rhett Miller will be playing a few solo shows over the next couple months, including a holiday NYC show with Dave Hill at The Loft at City Winery on December 20. January dates also include a NYC show at The Loft on January 19. Rhett’s also got shows in Winooski, DC, Burlington, Milwaukee, Evanston and more.

EZRA COLLECTIVE

Genre-defying UK group Ezra Collective will tour North America in 2023, concluding with six shows at NYC’s Blue Note Jazz Club.

GEESE

Geese have two intimate NYC shows lined up at Mercury Lounge on February 24 (with The Are Gutting a Body of Water and Chanel Beads) and February 25 (with Been Stellar and Godcaster).

PRIMAVERA SOUND 2023

Primavera Sound has announced the lineups for its Barcelona and Madrid festivals and they are seriously stacked.

THE WONDER YEARS

The Wonder Years have announced an extensive North American tour for early 2023 in continued support of their great new album, The Hum Goes On Forever. It kicks off in February and it’s an awesome bill all around with Hot Mulligan and Carly Cosgrove.

CITY OF CATERPILLAR

City of Caterpillar will be on tour in January across the South and Southwest, including dates with Portrayal of Guilt, Thou, Surrender, Rat Bastard, and more. Stops include Tampa, Miami, New Orleans, Houston, Austin, Tulsa, Memphis and more.

DEF LEPPARD / MÖTLEY CRÜE

After being out on tour together over the summer, Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe will continue their trek in 2023 with dates in Europe, the UK, Latin America, and two new US shows.

RED BARAAT

Red Baraat have announced their 11th annual Festival of Colors tour, which kicks off March 3 in Raleigh and wraps up March 25 in San Francisco, with stops in between in DC, Wilmington, NYC (Brooklyn Bowl on 3/9), Boston, Fairfield, and Tempe.

LEE RANALDO & RANDALL POSTER

Music Supervisor and producer Randall Poster, who has worked on most of Wes Anderson’s films, will celebrate his The Birds: The Birdsong Project benefit album at Rough Trade on December 9 at 8 PM. He’ll talk with Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo and take questions from the audience, and Lee will perform a few songs. Free with RSVP.

KISSISSIPPI / HIGHNOON

Kississippi will start the new year with a couple show, with Highnoon. They’ll play Philly on January 11 at Johnny Brendas with Julian, and then Brooklyn at Baby’s All Right on January 15 with Jane Lai.

SOULFLY / BODYBOX

Soulfly, the metal vets lead by onetime Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera, will be on tour in early 2023 with Maggot Stomp-signed Orlando band Bodybox, with Half Heard Voices, Skinflint and Drift joining at various points along the way. The NYC show happens February 18 at Music Hall of Williamsburg with Skinflint as opener. All dates are here.

WEYES BLOOD OPENERS (JESS WILLIAMSON, MOLLY LEWIS, VAGABON)

Weyes Blood launches her Holy Flux tour next week and some of the openers have been announced. Jess Williamson will open December shows in California, Molly Lewis will open East Coast shows in 2023, and Vagabon will take over starting March 13 in Milwaukee to close out the remainder of the tour. The NYC shows happen March 3 & 4 at Brooklyn Steel and both are sold out. Head here for all dates.

Max & Iggor Cavalera announce fall US dates playing Sepultura classics ‘Beneath’ & ‘Arise’

Earlier this year, former Sepultura members Max & Iggor Cavalera brought their ‘Return Beneath Arise’ tour around the US, playing a set that included almost all of Sepultura’s classic albums Beneath the Remains (1989) and Arise (1991), with help from Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy’s Mike Leon on bass, and Possessed/Gruesome’s Daniel Gonzalez on lead guitar. Now they’re set to do it again this fall, with another leg of the tour that hits Pomona, Vegas, Denver, Chicago, the NYC-area, Baltimore, Orlando, Santa Ana, and much more.

The NYC-area shows go down at Montclair, NJ’s Wellmont Theater on October 11 and Long Island’s Paramount on October 12. Those shows are on sale now. All dates are listed below.
