After two records of blown-out, buzzsaw pop, the Malts take their foot off the gas just a bit this time, letting in a little of the new wave that members Corey Cunningham and Phil Benson made with Magic Bullets seep back into the mix. There’s still a lot of JAMC, The Wedding Present and The Undertones, but they let things nicely jangle too.

On first single “Seen Everything,” the band have mellowed their buzzsaw pop approach just a smidge, into something more akin to early-’80s power pop. It’s catchy as all get-out.

Burger Records throwing tons of SXSW events (lineups)
