The Intelligence

This week: mutant punks The Intelligence, Melbourne, Australia’s Terry, a new EP from Jorge Elbrecht (Violens, Lansing-Dreiden), Jane Church (ex-Spires), and Ben Stiller’s high school post-punk band (not a joke).

The Intelligence’s Lars Finberg has a new video for “Benevolent Panic” from last year’s great solo album, Moonlight Over Bakersfield. Conceived by Lars and directed by Ryan Daniel Browne, a six quadrant split screen divides things into individual instruments with Lars at the helm of everything, but then things change.

The video, from The Intelligence frontman’s solo debut, was directed by Matt Ingebretson, who co-created and stars in Comedy Central’s pitch-black capitalism satire, Corporate, and it stars Bridger Winegar (The Late Show w/ Craig Ferguson) and the two of them came up with the concept together.

This week we’ve got a new singles compilation from the mighty The Fall, the solo debut from The Intelligence’s main brain Lars Finberg, synthy krautrock from Switzerland, a spooky new video from Grooms, and more.

The EP is from the first, early-’00s era of the band which featured main man Dean Whitmore backed by Lars Finberg (The Intelligence) and Jed Maheu (Zig Zags).

The Lower East Side indie rock venue closed on New Year’s Eve weekend.
