This week in the Basement: reviews of new albums from Omni, Bradford Cox & Cate Le Bon and Warmduscher, plus The Pop Group’s debut album gets a 40th Anniversary reissue and Brazilian psych artist Pedro Kastelijns.

The Pop Group’s “Kiss the Book” has previously only ever been released as a Peel Session — the studio version finally surfaces as part of the 40th anniversary box set version of Y.

The video was made by Douglas Hart, the onetime Jesus & Mary Chain member who went on to be a very successful video director, working with The Stone Roses, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream and more.

For this one, they enlisted the help of producers Dennis Bovell (The Slits, Orange Juice, I-Roy, Hollie Cook) and the Bomb Squad’s Hank Shocklee (Public Enemy, Third Bass, Tricky), and both seem like natural matches for The Pop Group’s vibe…
