The Walkmen‘s 2008 album ‘You & Me‘ has been remastered and comes with previously unreleased recordings from the era made at Memphis’ legendary Sun Studio.

“I don’t think I’ve had the nerve to be this honest, this autobiographical before,“ says Martin. “But more than anything I’ve ever written, these songs explain who I am and why I make this stuff.“

The National, Matt included, make one of their highest profile appearances yet on Taylor Swift’s second new album of 2020, evermore, and we took a look back at Matt’s many other collaborations over the years, including songs with Phoebe Bridgers, Andrew Bird, Julien Baker, CHVRCHES, Grinderman, Jon Brion, Spiral Stairs and more.

The song was co-written with The Walkmen’s Walter Martin and it finds Matt applying his usual melancholic songwriting style to a breezy, jangly, acoustic backdrop.

The Walkmen’s Walter Martin and The National’s Matt Berninger take on the quarantine in this song which includes such lyrics as ”just watched some guy from Death Cab For Cutie do a concert in his pajamas” and ”I still refuse to watch Tiger King.”

The National’s Matt Berninger covered Mercury Rev’s “Holes,” which opens their classic 1998 album Deserter’s Songs, at the NYC Tibet House benefit on Wednesday, and now he’s shared a gorgeous studio version of the song that is being released as a single as part of the second volume of the 7 Inches for Planned Parenthood series…

”I like to think of the song as a drum duel between two of my favorite drummers: Matt Barrick on drum kit vs. Ray Rizzo on congas. Not sure who wins.”
