Talib Kweli streaming collab EP with Styles P, playing shows
Two longtime staples of New York rap, Brooklyn’s Talib Kweli and Yonkers’ Styles P, toured together earlier this year, and last week they released a collaborative EP, The Seven. They were joined by Styles P’s LOX partners Jadakiss and Sheek Louch on “Nine Point Five,” fellow New York vet Common on “Teleprompters,” the great (comparatively) newer rapper Rapsody on “Let It Burn,” and more. The album gets political, it’s very in the now, and if you want a new record with classic-style bars, this one’s for you. Stream the whole thing and watch the “Last Ones” video below.
Talib Kweli has some tour dates (without Styles P) coming up, including three in his hometown. First, he’s the special guest DJ for Questlove’s Bowl Train at Brooklyn Bowl on April 27. Less than a week later, he returns to that same venue for full-band shows on May 2 and 3 with K’Valentine opening. Tickets for all three Brooklyn Bowl shows are on sale now. As a member of The LOX, Styles P is about to play the Ruff Ryders reunion shows, including Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Friday (4/21) and an afterparty at BB King’s that same night (tickets). Styles is also on the new Joey Bada$$ album.
K’Valentine also opened the Talib/Styles tour, and she has a new song, “Soul Searchin’,” which features Styles P. Listen to that below too.
