Technics 1200 turnable is back in production

You may remember that Technics were getting back in the turntable business. At a presentation today as part of the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Technics (which is owned by Panasonic) have announced the much-loved Technics 1200 will soon be back in production. The new model is called the 1200G and will feature a new direct drive electric motor for “improved torque and performance.” That’s it, above, and apart from a blue turntable strobe instead of the classic red, it looks like the nearly indestructible tanks everyone’s been wanting since Technics discontinued the 1200 line in 2008…which was right before the current vinyl resurgence hit.

No word on price, but the Technics 1200G will be available Summer 2016 in two models: the aluminum-cased SL-1200G and a sure-to-be-very-expensive magnesium limited anniversary edition SL-1200GAE ( only 1,200 will be produced). More details are at Technics’ website and check out specs below…
