The Barr Brothers go lawnmower racing in their "It Came to Me" video
Andrew Barr of The Barr Brothers and his wife Meghan have put on a music festival in Meghan’s hometown of Shigawake, Quebec, for the last nine years. It’s part of an agricultural festival that’s happened every August for nearly 100 years in the small, remote Quebec town (12 hours north of Montreal, population of about 100). Despite mainly locals attending, he’s gotten acts like Patrick Watson, Besnard Lakes, members of the Arcade Fire, and other well-known acts to play.
This year, Andrew invited filmmaker Vincent René-Lortie to attend the fair which this year included a new event: a muddy lawnmower/tractor race. The resulting footage has become the basis for The Barr Brothers’ new video for “It Came to Me,” which is off their just-released album Queens of the Breakers. Mixed with a barn performance by the band, the local color of the fair fits perfectly with the bluesy rocker. The Barr Brothers are currently opening for The War on Drugs on their European tour but will be back to tour North America later this month, hitting NYC at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on December 1 (tickets). Updated tour dates are listed below.
