The Body streaming two songs off new LP ft. Lingua Ignota, touring with her

The Body Fought Against It

The absurdly prolific, boundary-pushing heavy duo The Body are releasing their first non-collaborative album since 2016’s No One Deserves Happiness, which is titled I Have Fought Against It, But I Can’t Any Longer, on May 11 via Thrill Jockey (it also follows two collaborative LPs with Full of Hell). The new album has guest appearances from Kristin Hayter (Lingua Ignota), and Michael Berdan (Uniform), as well as contributions from regular Body contributors Chrissy Wolpert (Assembly of Light Choir) and Ben Eberle (Sandworm) and longtime engineers Seth Manchester and Keith Souza (Machines With Magnets). They built this record “on their own samples rather than recoding the basic tracks of drums and guitars and processing those,” and your first taste of the record is “Nothing Stirs.” It’s driven by what could work as an industrial rap beat, and Kristin Hayter’s soaring, haunting vocals steal the show. When Kristin’s crystal clear voice is met later in the song by harsh screams, the intensity doubles. Listen below.

The Body are playing a collaborative set with Thou (who they have more than one collaborative release with) at Roadburn, and after that, The Body are touring Europe (including shows with Lightning Bolt, Uniform, Weedeater, and Iceage). They also play Sled Island and just announced a NYC show happening July 7 at Saint Vitus (tickets on sale 4/6 at 10 AM). We haven’t seen any other North American dates announced yet, but more may be TBA. All known dates are listed below.
