The Breeders played Brooklyn Steel with Flasher (pics, setlist, video)
The Breeders are on tour supporting All Nerve, their first album in 25 years to be made with the same lineup as Last Splash. On Monday night (4/30) they played their first of three NYC-area shows, hitting Brooklyn Steel with Flasher (who probably own Last Splash). Kim Deal walked on stage carrying her purse which prompted sister Kelley to joke that she’s like a mom. A little playful sibling bickering ensued but The Breeders then got down to business, tearing through Last Splash‘s “New Year” and All Nerve‘s “Wait in the Car” and its title track in fast succession.
The rest of the set mixed excellent new ones with favorites like “Divine Hammer,” “Fortunately Gone,” “I Just Wanna Get Along,” “Safari,” “Saints,” “No Aloha” and, of course, “Cannonball.” They also played their covers of The Beatles “Happiness is a Warm Gun” and Ed’s Redeeming Qualities’ “Drivin’ on 9,” as well as Kim’s Pixies classic, “Gigantic.” Check out pictures from Brooklyn Steel in the gallery above and The Breeders’ setlist (and video of “Cannonball,” “Gigantic” and “All Nerve”) below.
The Breeders play Terminal 5 in Manhattan tonight (5/1) with Screaming Females (tickets) and Wednesday (5/2) at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre with Melkbelly (tickets).
Brooklyn Steel was Flasher’s final show on The Breeders tour but they’ll launch a headlining tour in support of their debut album (out 6/ via Domino) that includes a Northside Festival show at Elsewhere Zone One on June 8 which is with tourmates Dehd and Public Practice (members of Wall and Beverly). The Breeders also played The National’s Homecoming festival over the weekend and were just announced as part of ACL 2018. Updated tour dates are listed below.
