Death Wheelers

The Death Wheelers channel biker films for debut album (listen)

Canadian instrumental rockers The Death Wheelers take inspiration from such bikesploitation films as The Wild Angels, Werewolves on Wheels and especially Psychomania, from which they take their name. “The Death Wheelers” in Psychomania were a biker gang who kill themselves one by one so they could come back to life as “The Living Dead” and terrorize the town. This band imagines The Death Wheelers back for one last ride, and their debut album I Tread On Your Grave is the soundtrack to non-existent B-movie about The Death Wheelers’ return. Here’s more, from the album description:

They’re back from the grave and they’re hungry for blood! Nothing can stop this gang of living dead from recruiting new members as they travel coast to coast to find the filthiest, nastiest, trashiest individuals to join their ranks. Their goal, assemble a legion of 13 “discycles” (disciples+cycles) to seek revenge on the pigs that dismantled the club and send them to their graves. The cycle of violence continues…

Yes, please! Their debut LP, a sonic desecration dedicated to the dead, is an ode to the earlier days of rock ’n’ roll when lust and danger were an integral part of the scene and culture. This violent offering of pure aural aggression, recorded full band with no bells and whistles or studio trickery, is a testament to what The Death Wheelers stand for: rawness and power.

The instrumental rock of I Tread On Your Grave would indeed work as a film score for something like this, and the riffs hearken right back to the kind of ’70s hard rock that you’d expect to hear in an outlaw biker film. We’re premiering the song “13 Discycles” and its video below. The album comes out May 11 via RidingEasy Records (pre-order).
