The Decemberists

The Decemberists curated their own music festival (with Belle & Sebastian, Julien Baker & more)

The Decemberists have curated their first-ever festival, Travelers’ Rest. It goes down on August 12 and 13 at Big Sky Brewing Company Amphitheater in Missoula, Montana (the state Colin Meloy grew up in). Decemberists say this about the festival:

History-minded readers will recognize that the festival is named after the historical site, some few miles south of town, where Lewis & Clark were known to have made camp and put on their own two day music festival. It received mixed reviews; several critics noted that Meriwether Lewis’s band DySeNtErY, which headlined the event, was “overly morose” and the available food was “scarce” to “inedible.”

NOT SUCH, THIS TIME AROUND.

The Decemberists will headline both days, and the lineup also includes Julien Baker (who is opening The Decemberists’ April tour and who released a new version of “Good News” today), plus Belle & Sebastian, The Head and the Heart, Shakey Graves, Sylvan Esso, Charles Bradley, Real Estate, and more TBA.

Two-day tickets go on sale Friday (3/24) at 10 AM Mountain Standard Time with a presale starting Thursday (3/23) at 10 AM, using the password BITTERROOT. $1 of each ticket will benefit the ACLU of Montana.

The Decemberists’ tour with Julien Baker includes three NYC shows at Brooklyn Steel. 4/17 and 4/19 are sold out but tickets for 4/18 are still available.
