The Flaming Lips have a new EP coming out, featuring six songs “inspired by” Ender’s Game, the new big budget sci-fi film starring Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley that’s based on the 1985 novel of the same name. The film is about a battle between and man and a race of mutant bugs, which is, as you know, already the subject of so many Flaming Lips songs. One of those, “Peace Sword,” is actually in the film and is a pretty good Flaming Lips song. You can listen to five of the six tracks it below and head to NPR to hear the other one, “If They Move Shoot ‘Em.” The Ender’s Game EP is out digitally next week (10/29) and will be available on CD and vinyl as a Record Store Day Black Friday release.
Earlier this month The Flaming Lips played two shows at Terminal 5 with likeminded Aussie tourmates Tame Impala as well as Sean Lennon’s Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, and we’ve got a belated set of pictures from the 10/1 date in this post.
In other news, the Lips will be part of My Morning Jacket’s previously discussed “One Big Holiday” festival at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera in Maya, Mexico from January 26-30, 2014. This four-night, all-inclusive “concert adventure” also features the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Mariachi El Bronx and DJ sets from Thievery Corporation’s Rob Garza. Ticket packages are on sale.
