The Fleshtones celebrating 40th anniversary, releasing 'The Band Drinks for Free' & playing on a boat

Super Rock kings The Fleshtones are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. In addition to all the great garage rock records they’ve released over the last four decades the band have some impressive stats: They made their live debut at CBGB in 1976 and were the first band to play at Irving Plaza and Danceteria in Manhattan, Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ, and the first to be booked at the original 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. The band continue to be a force live (guitarist Keith Streng remains a master of the flying leap) and will release their latest album, The Band Drinks for Free, on September 2 via Yep Roc. You can listen to opening cut “Love Like a Man” below.

You can witness Super Rock in action when The Fleshtones play a Rocks Off Cruise on Thursday, August 4 with The Headless Horsemen. That’s aboard The Jewel and departs at 8 PM from E. 23rd St. at FDR Drive. Tickets are on sale.

The Fleshtones have a couple European shows on the books for November — all dates are listed, along with The Band Drinks for Free‘s tracklist, below.
