The Hold Steady doing another BK Bowl run ++ watch a couple get engaged at their Chicago show

Last year in late November and early December, The Hold Steady began their Boys & Girls In America 10th anniversary celebration with four Brooklyn Bowl shows. The band “had so much fun celebrating Boys & Girls In America and the holidays at Brooklyn Bowl last December that [they’ve] decided to do 4 more shows the same weekend THIS year!” They’re calling this run “Massive Nights” (named after the B&GIA song of the same name), and there will once again be surprise openers.

The “four straight nights filled with good friends, good times and great surprises” go down November 29 through December 2. Tickets go on sale Thursday (6/29) at 10 AM with a presale for Unified Scene members starting Tuesday (6/27) at 10 AM. There will also be a limited number of four-day passes and a bundle with THS merch that includes:

An exclusive event bag
Exclusive show poster (artwork above!)
THS beer koozie
THS bottle opener keychain
Setlist of that evening’s show signed by the band
ALSO, there will be two (2) soundcheck/happy hour events: one on Thursday, November 30, and the second on Friday, December 1 (limited availability for each).

The Hold Steady took their tour through Chicago for a run of shows that had their own surprises in store. At their 6/16 show at Thalia Hall, a couple got engaged during the show. Here’s what Craig Finn said about it:

Thursday we kicked it off at Thalia Hall. The venue is absolutely amazing, one of the best in the country, I think. The staff was super accommodating, the room was beautiful, and the stage sound was great. We always love a stage with a big hippie rug, so that makes us especially happy. We entered the stage to “Sweet Home Chicago” by the Blues Brothers and opened with “Stuck Between Stations”. We got in “You Gotta Dance”, which we hadn’t played in quite a while. At the top of the encore our longtime friend Cory proposed to his girlfriend Camie, which was beautiful. Jason Narducy (Split Single) and Kelly Hogan joined us for “Chillout Tent” and then helped us with a version of Cheap Trick’s “Southern Girls” which we changed to “Chicago Girls” because why not? All in all a great evening, and a great start to the weekend.

The band posted a video of the proposal, which you can watch below. THS’ Chicago run also included an intimate show at the Empty Bottle as part of the venue’s 25th anniversary celebration. THS had only played there once before but Craig Finn and Tad Kubler’s band Lifter Puller played a handful of times. Read more about THS’ Chicago run here.
