Two excellent lyric-heavy rock bands, The Hotelier and Foxing, are currently on a co-headlining tour together that they brought to NYC for a show at The Studio at Webster Hall on Saturday (8/2). Pictures from the night are in this post. The lineup was stacked from start to finish with New Jersey’s Kinsella-esque Prawn and Brooklyn’s emotional Told Slant opening. The crowd was engaged the whole night (see: Told Slant’s Felix Walworth’s sheepish excitement when the crowd overwhelmed their vocals during “Tsunami”), but it wasn’t until the tail end of Foxing’s set that things really started to get raucous.

When The Hotelier took the stage, frontman Christian Holden laid out ground rules: “Stay in your own personal space” and “Don’t yell at me.” It quickly became apparent how necessary those rules were with the front half of the room turning into a mosh pit before the end of the first verse on album-and-set-opener “An Introduction To The Album.” The pit’s energy never wore down, even withstanding the band’s encore of what Christian called “the most boring song on the record” (“Housebroken”).
