The House of Love announce first North American tour in nearly 30 years
UK alt-rock/dreampop/indie greats The House of Love will be coming to North America this spring for their first tour here in nearly three decades. Things kick off with two NYC-area shows: Gramercy Theater on May 6 and Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall on May 7, and the tour then hits Philadelphia, Toronto, Chicago, Minneapolis, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Tickets for Gramercy Theatre and White Eagle Hall — and all dates of the tour — go on sale Wednesday, January 15 at 3 PM local time.. All dates are listed below.
The House of Love’s last trip to North America was part of the 1992 Fontana Tour that had them out with labelmates Catherine Wheel and Ocean Colour Scene. The band broke up in 1994 but founding members Guy Chadwick and Terry Bickers (who had left after making HoL’s second album) reformed the group in 2003 and have released two very good albums since: 2005’s Days Run Away and 2013’s She Paints Words in Red.
This tour is being billed as a 30th Anniversary Tour (presumably for their 1990 second album, which contains modern rock hits “Shine On,” “I Don’t Know Why I Love You” and “Beatles & Stones”), and Chadwick notes that he’s wanted to come over before now but couldn’t convince Terry Bickers to do it. He still hasn’t: Terry will sadly sit out this tour, and Chadwick has put together a special all-star band for the occasion, lineup to be revealed. You can read a hand-written note about the tour from Chadwick, below.
