The Messthetics (ft. Fugazi's rhythm section) playing 2 NYC-area shows

The Messthetics are a new instrumental trio featuring Brendan Canty and Joe Lally, who you may also know as Fugazi’s rhythm section. The band are rounded out by experimental/jazz guitarist Anthony Pirog who has played with Henry Kaiser, Elliot Sharp, Mary Halvorson, as well as in groups. They haven’t released any music but you can watch live video of The Messthetics playing DC’s Comet Ping Pong early this year, below.

You can catch The Messthetics at two NYC-area shows next month, both of which are with The Royal Arctic Institute — another instrumental trio which features former members of Phantom Tollbooth, Das Damen, Roky Erickson’s backing band, and more. (Check out their album The French Method below.) They play Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus on December 5 with High Disciple, and NJ’s WFMU Monty Hall on December 6 with Amy Bezunartea. Tickets for both of those shows are on sale now.

Those are the only shows for The Messthetics at the moment.
