The Minus 5 share "Beatles Forever (Little Red)" from new LP, announce tour

Scott McCaughey’s The Minus 5 released Stroke Manor as a Record Store Day exclusive this year and it’s now getting a general release on June 14 via YepRoc. The album, which features contributions from Peter Buck and Corin Tucker (who he plays with in Filthy Friends), as well as Jeff Tweedy, and Joe Adragna (The Junior League), was partially written while McCaughey was in the ICU recovering from a stroke. Doctors warned him he might never play music again, so he wrote down whatever thoughts came to him, and that stream-of-conscious notebook became the basis for the album. They’ve just shared a video for “Beatles Forever (Little Red)” from the record and you can watch the video below.

Fully recovered and about to embark on a Filthy Friends tour, Scott’s also just announced a Minus 5 tour, kicking off June 14 in Eugene, OR and including stops in Portland, St. Paul, Milwaukee, DC, Philly, Jersey City, and wrapping up at Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival. There are also West Coast dates in late July and August.

The Jersey City show happens on June 27 at White Eagle Hall with Cliff Westfall (tickets). No official word on who will be in the band on this tour, or at the NJ show, but some dates are listed with Peter Buck and the San Francisco date also has Mike Mills (Scott was a touring member of R.E.M. from Monster on).

Filthy Friends, Scott’s band with Corin Tucker, Peter Buck, and Kurt Bloch, play Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg with Dressy Bessy on May 24 (tickets).
