Long Island melodic hardcore vets The Movielife celebrated the holidays with a couple Northeast shows, including an opening slot on Four Year Strong’s annual holiday show in Worcester on 12/28 and a headlining, BrooklynVegan-presented show at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade on 12/29. It was a very Long Island show, with support from fellow LI bands Victory Garden (featuring two members of the very recently departed Backtrack) and Somerset Thrower (whose singer/guitarist Frank Traficant talked on stage about seeing The Movielife play an acoustic show at Long Island’s Looney Tunes as a kid), plus local Brooklyn band Sharkswimmer. It also got a little Berkeley, when Victory Garden covered Operation Ivy’s “Knowledge” and Green Day’s “Burnout.”

Having performed classic albums on full on tour earlier in the year, The Movielife stuck entirely to the classics for their last show of 2019, pulling exclusively from This Time Next Year, the …Has A Gambling Problem EP, and Forty Hour Train Back to Penn. And as you’d probably hope/expect from a Movielife show at an intimate space like Rough Trade, the crowd got wild all night. Pictures (including one of the setlist) are in the gallery above.
