Day of the Dead

The National's long-awaited Grateful Dead tribute comp features 59 songs and will be out in May (tracklist)

Details have finally been announced for the Grateful Dead tribute curated by The National’s Bryce and Aaron Dessner. Titled Day of the Dead, this long-gestating project will be out May 20 and will benefit the AIDS/ HIV awareness Red Hot Organization. Four years in the making, Day of the Dead features over 60 artists from just about every genre, 59 tracks and is almost six hours long. Contributors include Wilco, ANOHNI, Kurt Vile, Bruce Hornsby & DeYarmond Edison, Fucked Up, The Walkmen, The War on Drugs, Phosphorescent, Sharon Van Etten, Jenny Lewis, The National, Courtney Barnett, Real Estate, Lucinda Williams, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Flaming Lips, Bela Fleck and, obviously, many more.

The massive compiliation will be out as a 5-CD box, limited-edition vinyl and digitally. You can check out the comp’s full tracklist and a Spotify playlist of Grateful Dead originals that matches track-for-track to Day of the Dead, below.

As mentioned, there will be a Day of the Dead live performance at the second annual Eaux Claires Festival (August 12-13) in Wisconsin featuring Jenny Lewis, Matthew Houck (Phosphorescent), Lucius, Will Oldham, Sam Amidon, Richard Reed Parry, Matt Berninger, Justin Vernon, Bruce Hornsby, Ruban Nielson and The National.
