The New Pornographers declare “War on the East Coast” in post-apocalyptic new video (watch)

by Bill Pearis

War on the East Coast

The New Pornagraphers have just released the video for “War on the East Coast” from their forthcoming Brill Bruisers album (8/25, Matador). The video was directed by Thom Glunt and takes the title literally, droping some slo-mo The Purge-style mayhem across LA (subbing effectively for North Brooklyn) as Dan Bejar and AC Newman walk cooly through it all. It’s a Bejar song — and a good one — but Newman handles the lip-syching. Says Carl:

We were going for some mid nineties second tier brit pop attitude. In the past, I’ve never really wanted to be in the video. But with this, we wanted to have fun and fully be IN the video.

Enjoy the single-take destruction that is “War on the East Coast” below.

The band’s fall tour hits NYC on November 19 at Hammerstein Ballroom with openers The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Tickets are still available.
