Posters featuring illustrations of lemon slices popped up all over Manchester, England this morning fueling rumors that The Stone Roses were about to announce something. (Lemons have always figured into the band’s imagery.) NME noted that a new touring company has been registered to the names of the four members: Ian Brown, John Squire, Gary “Mani” Mounfield and Alan “Reni” Wren. Other UK publications are speculating it could be a new album. Maybe it’s both? Meanwhile, other Manchester musicians, like Charlatans’ frontman Tim Burgess, have been tweeting the phrase “16 Lemons.” We’ll know soon enough: The announcement is coming at 2 PM East Coast time.

UPDATE: They’ve announced some 2016 UK dates: Manchester’s Etihad Stadium on June 17 & 18, and Glasgow’s T in the Park on July 8. Poster for those shows is below. Maybe more will be announced?

The Stone Roses got back together in 2013 for some shows, including Coachella (which to these ears was not the band’s finest hour). Are you excited for something new?

As for something old: Light in the Attic reissued both The Stone Roses’ classic 1989 debut album and their singles compilation Turns to Stone this year on vinyl, remastered from the original tapes. They sound good.
