The Van Pelt

The Van Pelt reissuing both albums (song streams + archival live footage)

Post-hardcore/indie rock vets The Van Pelt broke up in the late ’90s, but got back together a few times, including in 2014 when they released their “imaginary third” album and played live. Now they’re reissuing their first two, non-imaginary albums, this year via Barcelona label La Castanya (which has also released music by Van Pelt singer Chris Leo’s brother Ted).

Reissues of 1996’s Stealing From Our Favorite Thieves and 1997’s Sultans of Sentiment, which have both been remastered from the original tapes, will be out on May 12. We’ve got a taste of each reissue, with streams of the remastered “His Steppe Is My Prairie” (from Stealing) and “We Are The Heathens” (from Sultans). We’ve also got some rarely-seen archival footage of the band performing Sultans opener “Nanzen Kills a Cat” in Detroit in 1997. Watch that below too.

A tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sultans of Sentiment is in the works too. We’ll keep you posted on that, so stay tuned.
