The Weeknd named 'Starboy' after Bowie (who Danny Brown says made the best LP of 2016)

If you were wondering if the Weeknd’s upcoming album Starboy was named after David Bowie‘s “Starman,” it is indeed. It’s “a thousand percent” inspired by Bowie according to The Weekend, who talked about the new album (out November 25) with the Wall Street Journal. He also said “I just love Bowie, I think he’s the ultimate inventor.”

Meanwhile, Danny Brown — whose great new album Atrocity Exhibition is named after a Joy Division song — talked to Pitchfork about why it’s a no-brainer that Bowie’s Blackstar is the album of the year:

Blackstar is definitely the biggest album to me this year. That album is fucking creepy. It scares the shit out of me. And those videos. Fuck. I kind of relate to it, to him. When you put that much of your life into music, can’t nobody ever take that—you can’t rate that. You can’t review this. He died for this. This is his life right here. When people talk about the best albums of the year, I be like, “Y’all don’t realized Bowie’s album came out this year and he fucking died? What is y’all talking about?” We should hands-down know what the best album of this year is. Shouldn’t be talk of nothing else.

In other news, the new iPhone update has David Bowie emojis.
