The Wonder Years played acoustic with a string quartet at LPR (pics, video)
The Wonder Years wrapped up their tour supporting their new acoustic EP, Burst & Decay, in NYC yesterday (10/8) with two shows at Le Poisson Rouge, a matinee and a night show. The EP includes seven new acoustic versions of previously-released Wonder Years songs, and they’ve been playing all seven, plus plenty of other favorites like “Cigarettes & Saints” and “Passing Through a Screen Door,” and a cover of Fountains of Wayne’s “Hey Julie.” Laura Stevenson has been providing direct support at the shows and also joining TWY on stage for a few songs (she sings on the new EP too), but she missed the matinee yesterday after coming down with laryngitis (she did make it to the night show though).
The NYC shows were extra special because The Wonder Years were joined by a string quartet at these ones, and also because the show streamed live on Facebook, and TWY raised money during the live stream for hurricane victims. The shows had additional support from The Obsessives and Jetty Bones. Pictures of the matinee are in the gallery above and you can watch an archive of the live stream, along with a picture of the setlist, below.
Okay so uh, WOW. I came up to New York just to see @thewonderyearsband stripped and it was beyond anything I could have dreamt. I got one of the last (perhaps the last) set list, I got one of 50 tour variant vinyls sold per show, and I got to meet everyone except Josh and have them sign both. Ben got to watch me pressed against the stage during the live stream of the show. And tomorrow I get to go back to Pittsburgh and meet my best friend. It's hard to believe I was going to kill myself in April when life is this good now. We're no saviors if we can't save our brothers.
