Michael Stipe and Thom Yorke

Thom Yorke & Michael Stipe walk into a gallery (in Williamsburg)

Michael Stipe‘s new solo exhibition, “Infinity Mirror” is on display at The Journal Gallery in Williamsburg though August 12, and look who stopped by while in town to headline four nights at Madison Square Garden! “thom the greatest ever dropped by the show,” the R.E.M. frontman wrote on Instagram to caption the above photo originally posted by the gallery. They’re standing in front of an outtake from the photos Michael shot for the cover of R.E.M.’s Murmur.

We’re not sure how often Stipe is actually at his gallery show, but he was also there on opening night as you can see in our set of pictures. As we wrote:

The exhibit, which stems from his recent art book, Volume 1, “further expands on his use of photo-based practices to explore the 1970s as a formative decade through its cultural impact on his coming of age, and subsequently, the manner in which its influence informed the creative work he went on to create, both privately and as a public figure.”

Michael Stipe was also spotted at Radiohead’s 2nd of four NYC shows. Check out our pictures and the setlist from that night, and from night one (when Chris Rock was in attendance). Radiohead are back at the Manhattan arena tonight/Friday and Saturday, and then the tour continues in Montreal.

Jonny Greenwood’s side project Junun opens all the Radiohead shows, and also made a special appearance in another section of Brooklyn right before the run.

Michael Stipe doesn’t have any musical performances scheduled at the moment, but R.E.M.’s Peter Buck does.

The Journal Gallery is located at 106 North 1st Street in Brooklyn, NY.
