As the above info for tonight’s event points out, Blake Schwarzenbach played in Jawbreaker. What it neglects to mention is Blake’s NEW band Thorns of Life who made their live debut at The Jerk House in Sunset Park in November (photos here), and who have played a (very) few shows since then, one of which was in a Brooklyn house (videos below).

The new band is made up of Schwarzenbach, Aaron Cometbus (of the Cometbus fanzine), and Daniela Sea (alumnus of Bay Area bands The Gr’ups and Cypher In The Snow, and an actress on The L Word), and so far they have no recording plans. Schwarzenbach describes the band

“I can say only that it’s loud and tender and we’re called the Thorns of Life. Whether it’s more Jetsesque or Breaker-like I honestly don’t know; it sounds like a storehouse of fond hatred from the last few years and in the now.”

Stay tuned for any new shows as they come about.

Aaron Cometbus recently stopped by WFMU to sit in with Billy Jam and discuss Thorns of Life. Stream that audio at WFMU’s site.

A documentary on Jawbreaker is in the works, and the band reunited for that (albeit briefly in 2007) to jam in the studio (pic above).
