Big Star drummer Jody Stephens and onetime Freewheelers frontman Luther Russell have formed a new group, Those Pretty Wrongs. The two first got together when Stephens enlisted Russell for a few shows to promote Big Star documentary Nothing Can Hurt Me, they hit it off, and soon had released a 7″ on Burger. Those Pretty Wrongs released their debut album via Burger this spring, which they made at Memphis’ legendary Ardent Studios direct to 2″ tape, on the same equipment Big Star used. You can stream the whole album below and also check out the video for “Mystery Trip.”

Those Pretty Wrongs will be in the NYC soon for three shows: NJ’s WFMU Monty Hall on August 4 with The Everymen and Desir Decir (tickets), then they’ll open for Dinosaur Jr at Rough Trade on August 5 (tickets on sale today at noon) and then they’ll play a free show for the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival at Hearst Plaza on August 6 with Mary Gauthier, Teddy Thompson & Kelly Jones which is part of Americanafest.
