Thundercat played 2 Brooklyn Steel shows, covered Kendrick (pics, video)

Thundercat has been having a very busy year as usual. Last in NYC for the Afropunk Festival, he brought his tour here over the weekend for two Brooklyn Steel shows, a sold-out Saturday night gig (9/30) and a Sunday night show too (10/1). At both shows, he jammed out Kendrick Lamar‘s “Complexion (A Zulu Love),” which is one of several Kendrick songs that Thundercat co-wrote and co-produced (Kendrick is also on Thundercat’s 2017 LP Drunk). On Sunday night, he yelled “shout out to Kendrick Lamar forever!” during the song. Watch a video of that below. He also did Kendrick’s “These Walls,” which he features on as a vocalist. No video of that one from the Brooklyn shows but you can watch a clip of him doing it earlier this year, below.

In addition to those Kendrick songs, Thundercat also played a huge chunk of Drunk and some older songs like “Heartbreaks + Setbacks” and “Where the Giants Roam.” Both shows were opened by Saco & Uno and PBDY. Check out pictures of night one above and the setlist below.
