Thursday & Friday night in Dance w/ Showtrotta

As I already alluded to at the end of yesterday’s post, there are a quite a few different dance events coming up this weekend – parties, afterparties, indoor, outdoor, in warehouses, on roofs, in galleries – but first you have to make it through Thursday and Friday which offer the following options:

Metro Area

$10 advanced tickets available here.

I still can’t believe I have lived in New York, have been aware of Metro Area for so long, and still haven’t seen them deejay. From what I hear they tear it up on the disco/funk/boogie side of things but in a very modern way, and with hits like 2002’s Orange Alert and many of their other early releases still getting play today that’s not surprising. Morgan and Darshan are on top of their game, having released their seventh 12″ (Metro Area 7) in November and having deejayed numerous gigs since then. Santos seems like the perfect setting for them to throw down their dirty disco jams. If their sound is not your cup of tea Devlin & XXXChange will be there. I’ve seen Devlin and Darko before and their set was a pretty eclectic, danceable mix of current electro and dance classics. I can’t imagine a set from Devlin and XXXChange straying terribly far from that.

A second option for Thursday is Martin Gore from Depeche Mode and Osborne at Hiro. Osborne is on Ghostly/Spectral, but his music is more house/techno oriented than you would think given the label. His myspace is impeccably maintained and features tons of interviews, reviews, and mixes available for download to get a better idea of him and his sound.

Advanced tickets are $15, available here.

One last option for Thursday – Diplo is at Le Royale. I still have yet to get into Diplo save for a remix here and there. If you’re about him I’ve been told about multiple RSVP’s for this party – it’s $10 if you RSVP through [email protected] or you can RSVP through [email protected] but the cover charge is not specified.

Friday night Trouble & Bass were bringing the Bug and Warrior Queen to Love, but due to some visa problems detailed here, they couldn’t make it over from the UK. Luckily Trouble & Bass are professionals and were able to fill the gap in the bill despite the short notice. Updated event info below:
