Thurston Moore Group & Devin Brahja Waldman played Le Poisson Rouge (pics)

The Thurston Moore Group are currently on tour supporting new CD boxset Spirit Counsel, and stopped in NYC on December 5 for a show at Le Poisson Rouge. The group — which includes Thurston’s old Sonic Youth bandmate Steve Shelley, My Bloody Valentine’s Deb Googe, guitarist James Sedwards, and Jon Leidecker (aka Wobbly) — played a set made up of two of the lengthy improvisational instrumental numbers from the new album. The encore culminated in James, Thurston and Deb laying their guitars and bass in a circle on the floor as they left the stage.

Saxophonist Devin Brahja Waldman, who has been opening on this tour, played the LPR show with a group which included the great free jazz bassist William Parker. Pictures from the whole night are in the gallery above and you can listen to Spirit Counsel below.
