As mentioned, Thurston Moore‘s new band Chelsea Light Moving will release their self-titled debut album on March 5 via Matador, but you won’t have to wait to hear it, because NPR is streaming it in its entirety now. Of all the post-Sonic Youth projects, the CLM album is probably the most like Sonic Youth, but the noise parts are kept to a minimum and Thurson tends to stick to his “Teenage Riot”/”Dirty Boots” style of melodic songwriting (which of course isn’t a bad thing). They also get pretty heavy at times, most noticeably on the sludgy “Alighted,” perhaps inspired by Thurston recently joining metal supergroup, Twilight?
The band are supporting the new record with a previously discussed tour that hits the NYC area on March 2 at Maxwell’s with Talk Normal (tickets) and April 5 at Bowery Ballroom (tickets).
