Tom Diaz, original TWIABP vocalist, RIP

Tom Diaz, formerly of The World is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, has passed away at the age of 32. TWIABP confirmed the news on Facebook:

We are incredibly heartbroken about the passing of Tom Diaz. He was an extremely talented artist, with such a huge amount of musicality. On top of all of that, he was an incredible friend.

Tom was in the band from 2009-2012, and we deeply cherish the times we got to share with him. I’m sure anyone could attest to his kind and loving nature.

We have heard that the family would appreciate donations to the Friends of Assisi Food Pantry in Danielson, CT

Tom was a founding member of the band and the original lead vocalist before he left in 2012 and David Bello took over on lead vocals. He sang on their early EPs and a big chunk of their first album, 2013’s Whenever, If Ever, and his contributions were a big part of what made so many people fall in love with TWIABP early on. Rest in peace, Tom. You left a major impact on a lot of people, and you’ll be missed and remembered.

Tom’s cause of death is not currently known.

Into It Over It also posted a tribute, writing: “To Tom Diaz. I have several memories of shared conversation, porch lit cigarettes, powerful insight and genuine warmth/kindness. A genuine soul who I hadn’t spoken with in some time but had left a memorable, strong and fond impression on me in my earliest days of touring. Rest easy my friend.”
