Tom Morello throws a selfie-taking fan’s phone into the crowd (watch)
The ubiquitous raised cellphone is about as normal a part of the concert experience as it possibly can be in 2019 (aside from acts who have attendees lock theirs away in Yondr pouches), but the war on onstage selfie-taking is in full swing: FIDLAR frontman Zac Carper knocked a phone out of someone’s hand who was trying to do just that at a show just over a week ago and now Tom Morello has joined the crusade against the onstage cellphone selfie; as 101WKXQ reports, he threw a fan’s phone into the crowd at his Saturday (6/15) show at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in Tinley Park, IL. He tweeted about the incident too, sharing a video of it happening and writing, “Put a phone in my face onstage and I’ll throw it. #LiveInTheMoment” According to 101WKXQ, he also told the audience at the show not to hold cellphones in his face or “I’ll smack it.” Watch a video of it happening below.
Ultimate Guitar points out that in reply to a since-deleted tweet, Tom said, “Ur fave k-pop bands will let u take all the onstage selfies you want. You get to decide!” He also replied another person who asked, “but would u take a selfie with a fan offstage?” writing, “all day.”
And while not an on-stage selfie incident, you don’t want to shove your phone into Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford’s personal space, either.
