The Tompkins Square Dog Parade returned to East River Park Amphitheater for its 29th annual edition on Sunday (10/20). After weathering a cancellation and last minute save in 2018, this year the parade once again found itself in need of a sponsor at the eleventh hour. As Bedford and Bowery reports, Heart of Chelsea Veterinary Group stepped up to the plate to commit $17,500 to the parade, ensuring the 2019 edition would happen. Part of the money will also go to maintenance and upkeep of the Tompkins Square Dog Run, the parade’s original home before it was moved to the amphitheater.

Sunday’s rainy weather was for the dogs, but that didn’t stop hundreds of costumed canines and their owners, as well as a full house of onlookers under umbrellas, from participating. We spotted dogs dressed up as Bjork in her famous swan dress, a box of White Claw Hard Seltzer, hot dogs, tacos, rainbows, the pope, ramen noodles, characters from Midsommar and Jurassic Park, supreme court justices, and much more.
