Tony Kinman (The Dils, Rank and File), RIP

Tony Kinman of legendary West Coast agit-punks The Dils, Rank and File and other groups, has died after a battle with cancer. The sad news came via his brother, Chip. He was 63.

Tony formed The Dils in the late 70s with his brother Chip, and the group were one of the most popular West Coast punk bands of the era, despite releasing only three (influential) 7″s during their short existence. (You may also remember them in Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke.) Tony was also very briefly bassist in The Avengers, and after The Dils called it quits, he and Chip also played together in cowpunk band Rank and File, and the more post-punky Blackbird.

Rest in peace, Tony. Listen to some of Tony’s music below.
