tours announced: M. Ward, Jeff Tweedy, Soccer Mommy, Interpol, more
The following new tours were announced. Check the Tour Dates category every day for more.
With The Decemberists postponing/cancelling shows this week due to Colin Meloy’s vocal strain, that leaves tour mate M Ward with some free time. Instead of opening for them at Prospect Park on Wednesday (6/13), he’ll now headline The Bell House with Jesse Harris also on the bill (tickets). He’s also added a show tonight (6/12) at Providence, RI’s Columbus Theatre. M Ward also has a new album, and you can head here for all dates.
Soccer Mommy, who just played Northside Fest in Brooklyn (opening for Liz Phair), kick off their arena tour opening for Paramore tonight in St. Augustine, FL and they’ll hit NYC at Barclays Center later this month. They’ve also just added more headline shows this fall, including dates with Sasami. Check out their full tour itinerary.
Dan Bejar will be playing solo as Destroyer, opening for Neko Case on the West Coast leg of her fall tour. Before that, Dan will do a few solo Destroyer shows on the East Coast and Midwest, including Brooklyn’s Murmrr Theatre on October 20 (for which we have a presale). His tour also includes dates this summer in Canada and the U.S., plus shows in Australia.
Interpol just announced a world tour in support of their forthcoming Marauder LP. In North America this fall they’ll be out with Sunflower Bean, while UK and European dates are with Nilüfer Yanya. Interpol’s two NYC shows fall before those dates, playing Brooklyn’s House of Vans in August, and then the big Madison Square Garden show in February with Car Seat Headrest and Snail Mail (we’ve got a presale for that on Thursday 6/14).
Slowcore vets Low will release their twelfth album, Double Negative, in September and will be in NYC for two special release shows at National Sawdust. They’ll start their proper North American tour in November.
COURTNEY MARIE ANDREWS
Having release her terrific album, May Your Kindness Remain, back in March, Courtney Marie Andrews has been on the road a lot this year (including a couple NYC shows already). She’s just announced more North American dates for September. Those don’t include a new NYC show but she will play Philly.
David Byrne has expanded his “untethered” American Utopia tour, which now includes two nights at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre, a show at Forest Hills Stadium and an appearance at Panorama festival in NYC, in addition to lots of other dates around the globe.
Jeff Tweedy, who you may have seen briefly in new film Heart Beats Loud, will be in the NYC area this weekend for the Clearwater Festival in Croton-on-Hudson. He’s also just announced solo dates for September and October that are mostly West Coast and Midwest. Check out all dates here.
PYLON REENACTMENT SOCIETY
While Athens, GA post-punk greats Pylon ceased to exist after guitarist Randall Bewley died of a heart attack in 2009, singer Vanessa Briscoe Hay has kept the flag flying with the Pylon Reenactment Society, playing the group’s many killer songs (like “Cool,” “Beep,” and “Crazy”). They’ll be on a mini-tour this summer that includes a NYC show at Mercury Lounge on July 1 with Richard Barone of The Bongos, and 75 Dollar Bill & Friends.
