The following new tours were announced. Check the Tour Dates category every day for more.

MAC DEMARCO OPENING FOR THE STROKES AT BARCLAYS ON NYE

The Strokes are playing Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on New Year’s Eve and they’ve just announced that opening the show will be Mac DeMarco. (Tickets are on various presales now and go on sale Friday 8/9 at 10 AM.) Mac just played Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and will be back in September for a show at Brooklyn Steel.

MY MORNING JACKET

My Morning Jacket only have two more shows planned for this year, and they happen this weekend in the NYC area: they celebrate the 20th anniversary of Tennesee Fire at Capitol Theatre on Friday 8/9, and then play Forest Hills Stadium on Saturday 8/10, with Warpaint opening. Capitol Theatre is sold out, but tickets are still on sale for Forest Hills, and we have three pairs to give away!

AMANDA SHIRES

Before she gets busy with The Highwomen, Amanda Shires has dates this month, playing Edmonton, Regina, Minneapolis, Columbus, Pittsburgh, DC, Upper Salford, PA and Nashville. She’s also got dates opening for Josh Ritter (like NYC’s Beacon Theatre on 9/21) and shows as part of Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, too. All dates are here.

GARCIA PEOPLES (SHOWS W/ HOWLIN RAIN & CHRIS FORSYTHE)

New Jersey’s Garcia Peoples will release new album One Step Behind on October 18 via Beyond Beyond is Beyond. As their name implies, there’s more than a little Grateful Dead in their sound, along with a general love of ’60s West Coast psych, but you can hear homestate heroes The Feelies and Yo La Tengo in what they do too. The core of the new album is the blissed-out, 32-minute title track, and you can hear a seven-minute edit of that below. They’re on tour with San Francisco’s Howlin’ Rain this week, including Saturday’s Huichica Hudson Valley (which has scaled back following the death of David Berman, whose band Purple Mountains were to have headlined). They’ve also got September dates in NYC and Philly with Chris Forsythe, and a five show residency every Thursday in October at NYC’s Nublu. All dates are here.

BIG FREEDIA

New Orleans bounce queen Big Freedia is going on the “Azz Across America” tour this fall, including NYC shows with Mykki Blanco on Halloween and 11/1.

THE SCHIZOPHONICS

Makers of high octane, soulful garage punk, San Diego’s The Schizophonics have toured with Rocket From the Crypt, backed El Vez and played shows with The Damned and The Hives. They’re set to release their second album, People in the Sky, which will be out October 31. They’re also on tour this fall, kicking things off October 11 in San Diego and wrapping things up November 17 in Portland, OR. They’ll hit most major U.S. cities in between, including El Paso, Austin, Orlando, New Orleans, Memphis, NYC (10/30 @ Union Pool), Philly, New Haven, DC, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Detroit, Seattle and more. They’ll even play one Canadian show (Toronto on 11/7). All dates are here and you can check out new single “Battle Line“:

DONNY BENET (OF JACK LADDER & THE DREAMLANDERS)

You may know Australian musician Donny Benet as a member of Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders, but he also makes smooth music on his own that owes much to early-’80s yacht rock. You can check out the video for his 2016 single “Working Out” below. He’s currently in the U.S. and has a couple upcoming shows: Friday, August 9 at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn with Softee, and Saturday, August 10 at Hideout in Chicago.

PIVOT GANG / KARI FAUX

Chicago rap group Pivot Gang (who count Saba as a member) announced a tour with Kari Faux, who appears on their great new album.

IN COLD BLOOD

In Cold Blood emerged out of the same Cleveland metallic hardcore scene as Integrity and Ringworm (and shared members with both bands), and now they’re back with their first new album since their 1998 debut. They’re also touring.

WILLIE NELSON CANCELS AUGUST DATES

Willie Nelson has been on his 2019 Outlaw Music Festival tour, having just played Toledo, Ohio’s Huntington Center last night (8/7), and sadly he has been forced to cancel the remainder of his August dates for health reasons. “To my fans, I’m sorry to cancel my tour, but I have a breathing problem that I need to have my doctor check out. I’ll be back. Love, Willie,” he wrote on Twitter. Cancelled dates include the stops in Grand Rapids, MI; Huntington, WV; Florence, SC; Charlottesville, VA; Greenville, SC; and Greensboro, NC. His NYC show in September and Farm Aid appearance are both still on.
