SAM COHEN & COCHEMEA

Sam Cohen spent much of 2019 on the road with Kevin Morby, both opening the tour and playing in Kevin’s band. Chilling out back in Brooklyn, Sam’s got a special show lined up at The Sultan Room at Turk’s Inn on October 10, a “night of spiritual psychedelia” with saxophonist and frequent collaborator Cochemea. It’s Sam’s only date at the moment.

Y LA BAMBA

Y La Bamba released new album Entre Los Dos earlier this month and you can give that a spin below. Luz Elena Mendoza will be taking the group on the road this month, including shows in San Francisco, Philly, Brooklyn (11/12 @ The Sultan Room), Seattle, Portland, Tacoma, and Los Angeles. They’ll also play Mexico City in November — all dates are here.

SARAH DAVACHI

Composer/ambient musician Sarah Davachi released her latest solo LP Pale Bloom this summer, and a collaborative album with fellow composer Ariel Kalma, and will appear in Jonathan Davies’ new film Topology of Sirens. She has a busy tour schedule too, including a few North American shows in November, stopping in Los Angeles, Brooklyn (The Sultan Room on 10/7 with Matchess), Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, and Philly. She’s got tons on international dates as well — head here to see them all.

FAUX REAL

Faux Real is “the deranged child of Franco-American brothers” Elliott and Virgile Arndt who make wierdo arty new wave pop. They’ve got release shows happening in NYC (The Sultan Room on October 17) and Los Angeles (Gold Diggers on November 16). Check out their single “I Can’t Wait”:

YIP DECEIVER

Athens, GA’s Yip Deceiver, the anthemic synthpop group which includes Davey Pierce and Nicolas Dobbratz from Of Montreal, released the KONIEC EP recently (listen below) and have a few shows on the horizon: Detroit, Brooklyn (Sultan Room on 10/3), Norfolk, Athens, Clarksville, TN and more. FRANKIE & THE WITCH FINGERS

L.A. garage rock band Frankie & The Witch Fingers start their North American tour on Wednesday (10/2) in New Orleans, and will also play Mobile, Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville, CA’s Desert Daze Fest, DC, Montreal, Brooklyn (10/26 @ The Sultan Room), Toronto and more. They’ve also got dates with ZZ Top and Cheap Trick. Check out their whole tour schedule.

ELYSIAN FIELDS

Long-running NYC ethereal rock duo Elysian Fields just released their new album Pink Air which you can stream below. You can also catch them in their hometown on Halloween night at The Sultan Room with Miles Francis, and the show doubles as a release party for an even newer 7″ single.

JOHN ZORN

Jazz and avant garde great (and Downtown NYC icon) John Zorn has a few dates lined up for 2020. On February 5, he’ll play his venue, The Stone, during Sylvie Courvoisier’s residency. That’s part of a trio that includes Courvoisier and Bassist Jorge Roeder. He’ll also play The Sultan Room on February 21 with his Simulacrum group that also includes John Medeski (MMW), Matt Hollenberg (Cleric) and Kenny Grohowski (Imperial Triumphant).

CHRIS GETHARD

Chris Gethard has quite a few tour dates coming up, including tonight (9/30) at the Asbury Park Brewery, as well as Philly, Baltimore, Richmond, and a couple dates in Chicago on 10/14 with Carmen Christopher. He’ll also appear at Good God comedy show at Brooklyn’s The Sultan Room on October 22 which is with Aparna Nancherla, Chris Gethard, A.J. Holmes, Daniel Simonsen, Caitlin Cook, Phoebe Bottoms, Shane Torres, and Tom Thakkar.

RINGO DEATHSTARR

Austin shoegaze trio Ringo Deathstarr are going on an “Autumn Excursion,” including two Texas shows this week opening for Ride (Austin, Dallas), and then dates in November with Blushing including New Orleans, Charlotte, Richmond, Baltimore, Asbury Park (Asbury Park Brewery on 11/16), Philly, Brooklyn (Saint Vitus on 11/18), Toronto, Chicago, Madison, Minneapolis, Kansas City, and Norman, OK. MARIAH CAREY CHRISTMAS TOUR

Mariah Carey will celebrate the holidays — and the 25th anniversary of her Merry Christmas album — with a short tour. It begins with a five-show Vegas residency in November, then in December will hit Atlantic City, DC, Uncasville, CT, Boston and NYC (Madison Square Garden on 12/15). All dates are here.

MARK KOZELEK (HOLIDAY SHOW WITH KEVIN CORRIGAN)

If Mariah isn’t quite your thing but you’d like to be merry in a sadder way, Mark Kozelek is here to help, as he’s just announced a NYC holiday show with his yuletide partner in crime, Kevin Corrigan, at Music Hall of Williamsburg on December 19. Mark just wrapped up a tour over the weekend.

DESSA + STRING QUARTET

Doomtree rapper, singer, spoken word artist Dessa will release new album Sound the Bells: Recorded Live at Orchestra Hall on November 8. She made it with the Minnesota Orchestra. She’ll be doing a few shows with a string quartet to support the album not long after, including stops in NYC (The Greene Space on 11/20 and National Sawdust on 11/22), DC, Boston and Philadelphia. All of those dates, except for the Greene Space show, are with MONARK. Head here for all dates.

SILVERSUN PICKUPS

Shoegazy alt-rock quartet Silversun Pickups, who released Widow’s Weeds in June, will be on tour in December, including stops in Louisville, Cincinnati, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Richmond, Norfolk, Eugene, Sacramento, San Diego, and Tempe. All dates are here.

PUP / SCREAMING FEMALES / DREW THOMPSON FOUNDATION

Having already toured for this year’s Morbid Stuff, PUP will be back in 2020 for the Full Blown Meltdown Tour which will have them out with Screaming Females and The Drew Thomson Foundation. The tour starts February 21 in Buffalo and includes dates in Phoenix, Albuquerque, Houston, Dallas, Austin, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Denver, Salt Lake City, Tacoma, Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Sacramento and San Francisco.

CLIPPING.

Avant-rap trio clipping. — aka rapper Daveed Diggs (who was in Hamilton until 2016) and producers William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes — will release There Existed an Addiction to Blood on October 18 via Sub Pop and their tour start a little before that. They’ve just added a second NYC show, Rough Trade on October 8 which will now kick off their tour. They play a sold-out show at Brooklyn’s Elsewhere Zone One on 10/9, and then have shows in DC, Toronto, Oakland and then in November play the Adult Swim Festival in November. All dates are here.

GOUGE AWAY

Gouge Away will be on a short run of dates with Lifetime in November (Philly, Cambridge, Asbury Park), and just before that they’ll play Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus on 11/14 with special guests to be announced. The band are currently on tour with Jerome’s Dream and SOUL GLO, including dates in New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio this week. NEW PORNOGRAPHERS

The New Pornographers just dropped their new album In The Morse Code Of Brake Lights, and kicked off the first leg of their North American tour, which this week hits Minneapolis’ First Avenue on Tuesday, Chicago’s Vic Theatre on Wednesday, and Detroit’s Majestic Theatre on Thursday. They’ll be back on the road in November for shows in Boston, DC, Brooklyn (Brooklyn Steel on 11/7), Philly, Raleigh, Asheville and Atlanta. All dates are with Lady Lamb.

COLTER WALL

Country singer Colter Wall will hit the road for a North American tour of the South in Decmeber, making stops in Knoxville, Chattanooga, St. Petersburg, Savannah, Asheville, and more. He’ll then head to Tulsa for a New Years Eve show at Cain’s Ballroom.
