tours announced: Spiritual Cramp, Dark Thoughts, SRSQ, DJ Koze & more

The following new tours were announced. Check the Tour Dates category every day for more.

ENSIFERUM / SEPTICFLESH / ARSIS

Finnish folk metal legends Ensiferum kick off an extensive North American tour with Greek death metal greats Septicflesh in Baltimore on Saturday January 5. The tour lands in NYC the following day January 6 for a show at Irving Plaza with Virginia Beach-based extreme metal powerhouse Arsis. Although they were sarcastically regarded as “the kings of elf metal” on our sister site Invisible Oranges, Ensiferum are masters of their niche genre and put on one hell of a riveting show. The inclusion of Septicflesh and Arsis is sure to make this an eclectic, skull crushing evening. All dates here.

DYSRHYTHMIA / PYRRHON / CLERIC

Experimental metal bands Dysrhythmia, Pyrrhon, and Cleric are playing some Northeast shows together in Philly, Brooklyn, and Hamden this February. All dates and more info here.

DJ KOZE

DJ Koze, who made one of our favorite albums of 2018, has DJ gigs lined up for 2019, mostly at festivals like III Points in Miami and Chicago’s Midwinter in February. Before those he’ll be stopping in Brooklyn to play Life and Death x Sónar at Avant Gardener on 2/8 with DJ Harvey, Daedelus, Nosaj Thing and more. All dates are listed here.

SPIRITUAL CRAMP

San Francisco punks Spiritual Cramp, who released the ripping Police State EP last year, have two Brooklyn shows this weekend: a benefit for the Zakat Foundation of America for the Yemeni Crisis at Brooklyn Bazaar on Friday (1/4) with Mystic 100s (fka Milk Music), Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, Vanity, and Big City (tickets); and Saint Vitus on Saturday (1/5) with DAME and Muscle Before Paradise (tickets).

DARK THOUGHTS / THE SMARTHEARTS

Ramones-worshipping punks Dark Thoughts are hitting the road with their similarly-minded Philly neighbors The Smarthearts (who share members with Sheer Mag) this month, including a FREE Brooklyn show with the aforementioned Vanity on January 8 at Union Pool. All dates here.

SRSQ

Goth pop artist SRSQ, who released her debut album Unreality in 2018 on Dais Records, is opening the second leg of the Black Queen / Uniform tour in March, but first she has other shows including Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus on February 8 with Anatomy and one more act TBA (tickets). Dates here.

BASSEKOU KOUYATE & HABIB KOITE

Malian musician and master of the ngoni (an ancient traditional lute), Bassekou Kouyate will release new album Miri on January 25. Watch a trailer for the LP below. He’ll be on tour in the U.S. with fellow Malian musician, composer/guitarist Habib Koite, starting February 21 in Healdsburg, CA. They’ll make their way east, hitting San Francisco, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago, NYC (Le Poisson Rouge on 3/15), the DC area, Miami and more. All dates are listed here.

THIS IS NOT THIS HEAT

This is Not This Heat, the group featuring This Heat founding members Charles Bullen and Charles Hayward, are playing the 2019 Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN in March and right before that they’re making time for shows in NYC and Los Angeles.
