THE GROWLERS

California rock band The Growlers surprise dropped a new album today, titled Casual Acquaintances, and you can stream it below. The band’s Beach Goth festival happens next weekend in Los Angeles with The Voidz, The Drums, Hatchie, Jonathan Richman, GWAR, Doug E. Fresh, and more, and they’ll be on tour this fall that includes two nights at NYC’s Brooklyn Steel. They’ve expanded their tour since it was announced — all dates are here.

PILL

Skronky Brooklyn post-punk/no-wave lovers Pill will be on tour with Outside World and DECOR in August, playing Philadelphia, Boston, Winooski, VT, Providence and Washington, DC. As a kickoff to the tour, they’ll play a free show on Saturday (7/28) at Rippers in Rockway Beach, NYC with New Myths, Giggly Boys, Thick and Las Hormiguitas (5 PM start). All dates are listed here.

PEEL DREAM MAGAZINE

NYC band Peel Dream Magazine pull influence from ’90s heady indiepop like Stereolab, Unrest, Lilys and Broadcast and will release their debut album on Slumberland Records on October 5. This weekend, they’re playing East Coast shows: tonight (7/27) in Baltimore and Saturday (7/28) in Boston.

MEREDITH MONK

Avant-garde composer Meredith Monk has more upcoming performances of Cellular Songs, “the newest in a series of music theater pieces created by Meredith Monk that explore our interdependent relationship with nature while seeking to evoke the ineffable.” (NY Times caught the premiere of the show at BAM and called it “the cumulative force of some of her best writing.”) She’s doing two three-night runs of the show in October, one at Minneapolis’ Walker Art Center and one at NYC’s Le Poisson Rouge. Full schedule and more info here.

DEERHUNTER

Deerhunter have a handful of live dates coming up, including a free show at House of Vans Brooklyn with newly-added openers Circuit des Yeux and Standing on the Corner, which RSVP just opened up for today. All dates here.

MAXO KREAM

Still riding high off this year’s great Punken, Houston rapper Maxo Kream expanded his tour, adding a late-night Brooklyn show happening the same day he plays Warm Up.
