True Widow releasing 'Avvolgere,' share new song, announce tour dates

Grey-hued Dallas “stonegaze” band True Widow have announced a new album, the follow-up to 2013’s excellent, depressing Circumambulation. This one is called Avvolgere, and it drops on September 23 via Relapse. They’ve shared a new song and video from the album, which is called “Theurgist,” and you can check it out below.

“Theurgist” is, like the best of True Widow’s work, weirdly ear-wormy, in contrast to the single-minded gloom of the surroundings. Incorporating elements of gothy post-punk, shoegaze, and stoner metal, these guys create a compellingly grim cocktail of elements.

They put on a killer live show too, and you’ll have a chance to catch them soon hopefully (they also toured earlier this year), as they’ve announced a significant run of North American dates behind the release of the new album in October. They’ll be starting out on the west coast before making their way east by November. They stop in for an NYC show at Market Hotel on November 15 with support from Mary Lattimore, who has a new album of her own. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (8/12) at 10 AM.
