Tsunami Bomb

Tsunami Bomb releasing first LP in 15 years, playing Alternative Tentacles Fest (stream a track)

Petaluma, California ’90s/’00s-era punks Tsunami Bomb have been reunited since 2015 with original members Dominic Davi (bass) and Oobliette Sparks (keyboards), longtime drummer Gabriel Lindeman, and new vocalist Kate Jacobi, who replaced longtime vocalist Emily Whitehurst. (They now also have new guitarist Andy Pohl, who replaced Brian Plink in 2017.) They released a compilation in 2016, a two-song single in 2018, and now they’re gearing up for their first full-length album in 15 years — and third ever — called The Spine That Binds, due November 8 via Alternative Tentacles.

The album was produced by the band and mixed by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Joyce Manor, Jeff Rosenstock, etc), and it features both songs from the 2018 single (“Lullaby For The End Of The World” and “Naysayers”) as well as the new “The Hathors,” which premieres in this post. Emily Whitehurst’s voice is of course missed, but the band’s dark pop punk sounds like no time has passed since 2004 and Kate Jacobi is a great singer in her own right who fits right in with this band. Listen below.

Tsunami Bomb also have a few upcoming shows, including Punk The Burbs 3 in Illinois this weekend, The Fest in Gainesville, FL and Alternative Tentacles’ recently announced 40th anniversary festival Tentacle Fest in Berkeley, CA, the latter of which doubles as an album release show for Tsunami Bomb.

Tentacles Fest happens November 22 & 23 with Tsunami Bomb, ArnoCorps and World/Inferno Friendship Society on day one; and Itchy-O and Victim’s Family on day two. Label head Jello Biafra DJs and hosts both days. Tickets and more info here.
