Turn to Crime releasing new LP 'Secondary' (listen), touring

Turn To Crime

Detroit band Turn to Crime will release their new album, titled Secondary, this Friday (2/3) via frontman Derek Stanton’s own Mugg & Bopp Records. It’s been an intense year for Stanton who after losing hearing in his left ear, learned it was the result of a brain tumor. “It was about a millimeter from being too big to remove,” he said. “I had about a 50/50 chance of losing hearing and the movement on the left side of my face.” The band canceled their tour for 2015’s Actions only a week after the LP’s release and Stanton underwent emergency surgery.

It was a success and here we are with the new album. “I didn’t want to write a downer album about the fragility of life or anything too personal or autobiographical,” Stanton said. “What came out is an important (to me) oddball pop album with a sense of urgency.” That sense of urgency is palpable and the record, while decidely, defiantly low-fi, crackles with energy. A stream of the whole album premieres in this post and you can listen below.

Turn to Crime will be on tour in Febraury, hitting Brooklyn on 2/18 at Sunnyvale with Navy Gangs, Rips, and Teen Body. Tickets are on sale now.
