Typhoon streaming new LP 'Offerings,' begin tour soon

Portland, OR’s Typhoon have been quiet for a while, but they’re about to release their first album since 2013’s White Lighter. It’s called Offerings, it drops next week (1/12) via Roll Call Records, and it’s currently streaming in its 68-minute entirety on NPR. Like their previous records, it’s a highly ambitious chamber pop album in the Sufjan/Arcade Fire/Broken Social Scene realm (and vocally similar to Bright Eyes), but band leader Kyle Morton also says he stripped things back a bit this time. “We have a little bit of trumpet on this record and a lot of string arrangements. But we really strayed away from the horn arrangements. I wanted it to be a darker, more intense rock record, so it’s very guitar-based. It’s going back to my rock roots before Typhoon,” he said. Listen below.

Typhoon are also about to begin a tour supporting the album, including a Brooklyn show on January 27 at Music Hall of Williamsburg with Bad Bad Hats and Sunbathe (tickets). All dates are listed below.

UPDATE: Typhoon have also added a free (with purchase of their album) instore performance and signing at Rough Trade on January 28, the next day. See more details here.
